Packing for a Disney park day sounds simple until you’re standing at the bag check, realizing you brought something you’re not allowed to have.

Disney’s bag rules are no joke, and Cast Members at the park entrances are absolutely enforcing them in 2026. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned annual passholder, it’s worth taking a few minutes before you head out to make sure your bag is good to go. We’ve rounded up the key rules Disney has on the books right now so you can pack smarter and skip the stress at security.

Planning guide for the ultimate Disney vacation

There’s a Size Limit on Bags

First things first: if your bag is massive, it’s not getting through the gates. Disney doesn’t allow suitcases, bags, coolers, or backpacks (wheeled or not) that are larger than 24 inches long x 15 inches wide x 18 inches high (61 cm x 38 cm x 46 cm) at any of its theme parks or water parks. So if you were thinking about rolling in a giant hard-sided cooler or a piece of carry-on luggage, that’s a hard no.

It’s also worth knowing that Disney straight-up reserves the right to turn away any bag, parcel, or item it deems inappropriate, and to handle any unattended bags however it sees fit. So even if your bag technically fits the size requirements, cast members still have the final call.

Items You Can’t Bring In Your Bag (Or At All)

Beyond the size restrictions, Disney has a list of prohibited items that aren’t allowed in the parks, period. Since most of these are things you’d typically toss in a bag, it’s important to know what’s on the list before you start packing. Here’s what you can’t bring:

  • Large tripods and selfie sticks
  • Folding chairs
  • Suitcases and coolers
  • Loose ice
  • Glass containers (small containers like baby food jars are okay, but larger glass containers are out, and note that glass is permitted at Disney Resort hotels)
  • Wagons and trailers
  • Weaponry of any kind
  • Masks that cover the entire face
  • Alcohol, marijuana, or illegal substances
  • Artificial noise makers
  • Remote-control toys
  • Other suspicious items

Animal Kingdom (heads-up): If you’re visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom specifically, there are two additional things you can’t bring into that park that are allowed elsewhere. Balloons and plastic straws are both prohibited at Animal Kingdom, so keep that in mind when you’re packing for a day at that park.

What We’d Recommend Packing Instead

Now that you know what NOT to bring, here are a few of our favorite bag essentials that we’d never show up to a Disney park without.

Start with this Poncho

Frogg Toggs Poncho

We don’t want you getting caught out in a Florida downpour with zero rain gear. The Frogg Toggs rain poncho is one of our go-tos because it’s actually breathable, and it compresses down into its own little carry pouch so it barely takes up any space in your bag. It comes in a bunch of colors, too, which is a nice bonus.

Keep your Loungefly Organized with this

HOYOFO Mini Backpack Organizer

We are obsessed with our Loungefly bags, but let’s be honest, they can feel like a total black hole when you’re digging around for your phone or your snacks mid-ride. The HOYOFO Backpack Organizer genuinely changes the game. It keeps everything sorted, so you’re not doing a frantic excavation every time you need something. We save so much time with this thing.

Tackle the Sun and the Rain with this Umbrella

BAODINI Travel Mini Umbrella

This one’s great for both sun and rain, which is exactly what you need on a Disney day. The BAODINI Travel Mini Umbrella comes with its own case and is super compact. We’ve found that popping one of these open can drop the temperature underneath by around 5 to 10 degrees, which is genuinely clutch during the hotter months.

Stay hydrated with this Water Bottle

Owala Rapunzel Water Bottle

Staying hydrated at Disney is non-negotiable, and this Owala water bottle makes it so easy and so cute. The FreeSip design lets you either sip through the built-in straw or tilt it back to drink from the wide-mouth opening, and the double-wall insulation keeps your drinks cold for up to 24 hours. It’s got a carry loop that doubles as a lid lock, fits in cup holders, and comes in five Disney Princess color themes. The Rapunzel colorway is one of our personal favorites. The lid is dishwasher safe, though you’ll want to hand-wash the cup itself. Just note it’s not for hot liquids!
